Weather Forecast: IMD Predicts Rain in Punjab & Eight Other States, Latest News: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for nine states on Friday, forecasting rainfall across these regions. The affected states include Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Jharkhand, Sikkim, eastern Madhya Pradesh, and parts of West Bengal.
In addition, yellow alerts have been issued for some parts of Maharashtra and Haryana, as well as other regions across the country.
IMD scientist Surender Paul said on Thursday, "Heatwave conditions prevailed in parts of Punjab and Haryana for the last 2–3 days. However, there are chances of rain in western Punjab and northern and northeastern Haryana over the next 2–3 days. Temperatures have risen abruptly in recent days," as reported by ANI.
The IMD has also warned of heavy rainfall in Assam and Meghalaya until April 13, in sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh until April 12, and in Bihar on April 11.
Light to moderate rainfall is predicted for Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh on April 11, and in Uttarakhand on April 11 and 12.
According to the weather bulletin dated April 10, an isolated hailstorm is likely over Haryana, East Uttar Pradesh, north Chhattisgarh, East Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Assam, and Meghalaya on April 10, and over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Punjab on April 11.
A duststorm is also very likely at isolated places in West Rajasthan on April 11.
The IMD has predicted light to moderate rainfall across northeastern states over the next 6–7 days. A fresh spell of heatwave has been forecast for West Rajasthan between April 14 and 16, and for East Rajasthan, Haryana, and Punjab on April 16.
For April 11, IMD Chandigarh has issued a yellow alert for Bathinda, Moga, and Jalandhar for thunderstorms, lightning, squalls, and strong surface winds. An orange alert has been issued for Mansa, Barnala, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Patiala for thunderstorms, lightning, squalls, hailstorms, and strong surface winds.
Patiala is the only district under an orange alert on April 12; the remaining districts in Punjab are under yellow alerts for the same day.
No weather alerts have been issued for April 13, 14, or 15, according to updates released on April 10.
