Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday launched several developmental projects worth Rs 11,000 crore in Keralam.

The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of a Polypropylene Unit at the Kochi Refinery to strengthen the petroleum sector. The unit is expected to produce four lakh tonnes annually to support the packaging, textile, and medical device industries.

Prime Minister Modi, in his speech during the event, remarked, "To build a self-reliant India, for 'Make in India', the expansion of the petroleum sector is essential."

The foundation stone of a 50 MW Floating Solar Project was also laid in the state’s West Kallada today, with the aim of ensuring that Kerala progresses in the field of solar power generation. PM Modi said that with a very large number of water bodies in Kerala, the state holds great potential in the field of floating solar power.

PM Modi, in his speech, also praised the Akhila Kerala Dheevara Sabha, noting its significant contribution to promoting social harmony and unity. He also mentioned that it was the National Democratic Alliance government led by him that created a separate ministry for the welfare of fishermen.

“This benefitted Keralam significantly. It’s great to see FPOs growing in the sector too,” pm said.

He also talked about emerging opportunities in seaweed production and said the government is encouraging the same, adding that the government is also promoting modern fish farming systems.
