Normal train services are available on the rest of the Airport Express Line.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Sunday issued a travel advisory, stating that restoration work will be carried out at night on the Airport Express Line between Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector-25 and New Delhi. Passengers have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly, as travel time may be slightly longer.

The DMRC cited theft and damage to signalling cables as the reason for the disruption and inconvenience.

In a statement, the DMRC said, “Train services on the Airport Express Line from Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector-25 to New Delhi are being regulated since this morning due to theft and damage to approximately 800 metres of Signalling cables caused by miscreants in the midsection between Dhaula Kuan Metro Station and Shivaji stadium station; although the cables were cut during the attempted theft, but thieves could not take away the cut pieces of cables, which have been found near Metro Pillar number-09 during inspection.”

It added that the cable theft has disrupted the signalling system, due to which trains are running at a restricted speed of 25 kmph in the affected section between Dhaula Kuan and Shivaji Stadium stations on the Up Line towards New Delhi.

Normal train services are available on the rest of the Airport Express Line.

The DMRC further stated that the replacement of the signalling cables will be carried out at night to minimise passenger inconvenience.

“Trains run every 10 minutes on the Airport Express Line, replacement of these Signaling cables is not possible with out adversely affecting passenger services during revenue hours, therefore to minimize passenger inconvenience, and restoration work will be taken up at night after the end of revenue service. The necessary planning and preparatory works are already being undertaken during day time for the activities to be done in the night,” it added.

To keep passengers informed, regular announcements are being made at stations and inside trains on the Airport Express Line.

Passengers are, therefore, advised to plan their journeys accordingly, as travel time may be slightly longer.

The DMRC also said that it is in touch with the law and order machinery to address such recurring issues of cable theft.
