CJI Surya Kant: Lawyers Must Go Tech-Savvy to Fight Global Cyber-Crime
Chief Justice of India, Justice Surya Kant, said that advocates must become "tech-savvy" to effectively combat the rapid surge of global cybercrime. On Friday, he addressed the District Bar Association in Hisar, and the CJI expressed deep concern over the evolving nature of digital offences, specifically the alarming emergence of "digital arrests" as a dangerous international trend.
Justice Kant revealed that cybercrime has led to a staggering loss of nearly INR 55,000 crore from innocent Indian citizens, with funds often being funnelled into foreign accounts through organised international rackets.
"The nature of litigation has shifted from petty local disputes to complex technology-driven conflicts," the CJI remarked. He added that being technologically savvy is no longer optional but essential for modern legal practice.
While noting that India’s justice delivery system remains a global leader in technological integration, Justice Kant urged Bar Councils and High Courts to prioritise regular digital training programmes. By adopting modern technical methods for commercial and cyber litigation, the CJI maintains that the Bar and Bench will continue to uphold the highest standards of justice.
