World Leaders Gather at Delhi's Bharat Mandapam for Historic G20 Summit; PM Modi Welcomes Diverse Delegation

NEW-DELHI: The Eagerly Anticipated G-20 summit commenced with a momentous announcement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who welcomed global leaders and dignitaries to the Bharat Mandapam in the heart of Delhi. This historic event, attended by heads of state and influential industrialists, marked a significant turning point as it witnessed the inclusion of the African Union into the G-20, prompting the renaming of the esteemed forum as the G21.

In his opening address, PM Modi underscored the importance of the 21st century, which he described as a pivotal era destined to chart a transformative course for the world. He articulated that the current age confronts humanity with age-old challenges that demand innovative solutions, emphasizing the need for a human-centric approach in tackling these issues.

PM Modi addressed the profound lack of trust that has plagued the world, deepened by the COVID-19 pandemic and exacerbated by global conflicts. Drawing a parallel with the successful fight against the pandemic, he asserted that just as nations came together to conquer COVID-19, they can unite to overcome the crisis of mutual mistrust. He called upon the international community to collectively restore trust across the globe.

Notably, the seating arrangement at the summit bore Bharat's name, signifying its pivotal role in hosting this prestigious gathering. Union Minister Smriti Irani aptly expressed the significance of the occasion on Twitter, stating, "A new name for hope and faith - Bharat."

Azali Assoumani, President of the Comoros Federation and Chairman of the African Union (AU), assumed a permanent seat as a member of the G-20, cementing the African Union's presence in the forum. This transformative development heralds a new chapter in the G-20's history, rechristening it as the G21 and reflecting the growing importance of Africa in the global landscape.
