Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh welcomed five new cheetah cubs on Monday, adding a fresh chapter to India’s wildlife conservation journey. The mother, a Namibian cheetah named Jwala, has now successfully given birth three times at the park. The cheetah reintroduction project at Kuno began in 2022 to restore the species to its historic habitats in India. With these latest additions, the country’s cheetah population has reached 53.

Just days earlier, another cheetah, Gamini, gave birth to four cubs in the same park. Together, the births of Jwala and Gamini’s cubs have raised the number of cheetahs born in India to 33.

Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav called the births a proud moment for the cheetah project. He highlighted the dedication of veterinarians, field staff, and everyone involved, noting that such achievements are the result of sustained effort, skill, and commitment.
