While the Houses will remain in recess on January 31, the Union Budget will be presented on February 1.
Union Budget 2026: Parliament Session Likely from Jan 28; Budget Set for Sunday, Feb 1
The budget session of Parliament is expected to commence on January 28, and the Union Budget 2026 will likely be presented on February 1. Notably, the budget presentation will fall on a Sunday this year.
According to officials citing the tentative schedule, President Droupadi Murmu will commence the proceedings by addressing a joint sitting of both houses on the opening day.
Due to the customary presidential address, the Houses will not convene on January 29 due to the Beating Retreat ceremony. The focus then will shift to January 30, when the Economic Survey is likely to be tabled in Parliament.
While the Houses will remain in recess on January 31, the Union Budget will be presented on February 1. This schedule ensures that the crucial financial document is introduced at the very start of the month.
The first part of the session is expected to continue until February 13, after which Parliament will adjourn for a month-long recess. This break allows various department-related standing committees to scrutinise the demands for grants from different Union ministries.
The session is scheduled to reconvene on March 9 and will likely conclude on April 2. The early conclusion on a Thursday is planned to accommodate the Good Friday holiday on April 3 and the subsequent weekend.
This timeline provides the government a sufficient window to complete the legislative business related to the financial year 2026-27 while ensuring thorough parliamentary oversight of the proposed expenditures and fiscal policies.
