Pakistan Attacks India Latest News Today, Chandigarh, Mohali Blackout: While Pakistan has attacked India at several places in Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, and Rajasthan, Chandigarh and Mohali have been placed on alert, wherein a complete blackout has been initiated.
Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated sharply following Pakistan’s alleged attacks on multiple locations across Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, and Rajasthan. In response, the cities of Chandigarh and Mohali have been placed on high alert, with authorities enforcing a complete blackout to ensure public safety and bolster security measures.
According to reports, Pakistan launched drone and missile attacks targeting military installations in several Indian cities, including Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Bathinda, Chandigarh, and Jammu, among others, on the night of May 7. The Indian armed forces successfully neutralized these attacks using advanced air defense systems, with debris from the intercepted drones and missiles recovered from various locations, confirming Pakistan’s involvement.
The blackout in Chandigarh and Mohali, initiated as part of a civil defense drill, began in the early hours of Thursday and is aimed at minimizing risks amid fears of further retaliatory strikes. Residents have been urged to remain indoors, stay alert, and comply with security directives. Similar blackout measures have been implemented in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district, where a complete blackout is in place from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM under the Civil Defence Act, 1968.
The attacks follow India’s Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, which targeted nine terrorist infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), including strongholds of Jaish-e-Mohammad in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba in Muridke. The operation was a retaliation for the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives. Pakistan has condemned the strikes, claiming 31 civilian deaths, and vowed to retaliate, further intensifying the conflict.
In Punjab, eyewitnesses reported hearing explosions in cities like Amritsar, Jalandhar, and Bathinda, later attributed to India’s air defense systems intercepting Pakistani drones and missiles. In Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistani forces resorted to heavy artillery and mortar shelling along the Line of Control (LoC), targeting civilian areas in Kupwara and Karnah, prompting a strong response from the Indian Army.
Rajasthan, sharing a border with Pakistan, has also been placed on high alert, with the Border Security Force (BSF) issued shoot-on-sight orders for any suspicious activities. The state’s police leaves have been canceled, and security has been tightened along the 2,289 km India-Pakistan border.
The Indian government has called an all-party meeting to brief leaders on Operation Sindoor and the ongoing situation. Meanwhile, 27 airports across northern, western, and central India, including Chandigarh, Amritsar, Jammu, and Srinagar, have suspended commercial operations until May 10 due to heightened security concerns.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called India’s strikes an “act of war” and promised retaliation, while India’s Defense Minister Rajnath Singh warned that any further provocations would face “quality action.”
As the situation remains volatile, Chandigarh and Mohali residents are grappling with the blackout and heightened security measures. Local authorities have assured the public that the situation is under control, but the region remains on edge as India and Pakistan stand on the brink of further conflict.
