Sankranthi 2026: 150 Special Trains Launched; 16 Regular Services Suspended
South Central Railway (SCR) has announced 150 special trains to accommodate the massive passenger demand ahead of the Sankranthi festival. SCR Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) A. Sridhar said that these services were introduced in response to a surge in travel requests from Hyderabad and other major stations across the South Railway zone.
The railway authorities are focusing on high-demand routes from Hyderabad to Coastal Andhra Pradesh, including destinations like Narsapuram, Kakinada, Srikakulam, and Vizag. In addition to these special trains, officials confirmed that over 600 regular services are continuing their operations to ensure pan-India connectivity across northern, eastern, and southern regions during the festive season.
The CPRO issued a cautionary note regarding Secunderabad station. Due to ongoing redevelopment works, passengers may face congestion. To mitigate this, SCR has permanently shifted several important trains to terminals like Charlapalli, Kacheguda, and Lingampalli. Some temporary shifts are also in effect to streamline operations.
Reports indicate that special halts have been provided at stations such as Begumpet and Hi-Tech City to help passengers reach their nearest boarding points easily. As per officials quoted in the report, sixteen regular mail express trains have been suspended to prioritise festive traffic. The SCR has urged travellers to check updated schedules and cooperate with authorities at stations currently undergoing renovation to ensure a smooth and safe travel experience.
