PM Modi to AI Startups: Build 'Made in India' Tech in Regional Languages
Ahead of the upcoming India AI Impact Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level roundtable with Indian artificial intelligence start-ups today. He urged young entrepreneurs to ensure that domestic AI models are ethical, unbiased, transparent, and strictly rooted in data privacy principles.
The Prime Minister shared a vision for AI that promotes local and indigenous content, specifically emphasising the integration of regional languages. He assured the twelve start-ups in attendance, which have qualified for the ‘AI for ALL: Global Impact Challenge’, of full government support. These start-ups are currently innovating in different sectors, including healthcare diagnostics, multilingual language models, and engineering simulations.
PM Modi described AI entrepreneurs as the “co-architects of India’s future.” He emphasised that India has the capacity for both large-scale implementation and frugal innovation. The Prime Minister suggested that India should present a unique model to the world that reflects the spirit of “Made in India, Made for the World.”
The report by The Tribune noted that start-up leaders, including CEOs from firms like Sarvam AI and BharatGen, commended the government's commitment to the AI ecosystem. They observed that the global centre of gravity for AI innovation is shifting toward India. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw was also present at the meeting to discuss the future of India’s digital transformation and the expansion of the AI mission.
