The 73-year-old MLA added that the cake was arranged by Mahanaryaman Scindia, who also stood up to sing the traditional birthday song.
In a surprising incident, a 73-year-old Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA was seen touching the feet of the 30-year-old son of Union Minister and BJP MP Jyotiraditya M. Scindia.
A purported video showing BJP MLA from Shivpuri, Devendra Jain, touching the feet of Mahanaryaman Scindia has surfaced online, sparking discussion and drawing public attention.
The incident took place during the 69th National School Games, held on Monday at the Shivpuri District Stadium in Madhya Pradesh.
According to an NDTV report, Monday also coincided with Devendra Jain’s birthday, which he celebrated at the sports event along with Mahanaryaman Scindia and others.
In the video, after cutting a cake, the leader is seen touching the feet of the 30-year-old, who is nearly 40 years younger than him. Mahanaryaman Scindia is seen calmly blessing the elderly BJP leader.

The NDTV report further stated that Devendra Kumar Jain, while speaking to the channel, said, “Touching someone’s feet is a personal expression of respect and not something prohibited by any rule or law.”
“There is nothing written in the Constitution that says one cannot touch the feet of someone younger. People are making the video viral, but it does not bother me,” Jain was quoted as saying.
The 73-year-old MLA added that the cake was arranged by Mahanaryaman Scindia, who also stood up to sing the traditional birthday song, ‘May you live for a thousand years’, for him.
Jain said he was emotionally touched by the gesture. “It was purely a cultural and personal expression,” he added.
In Indian culture, touching someone’s feet is traditionally seen as a gesture of seeking blessings from elders or religious figures. In some communities, wives also touch their husbands’ feet as a mark of respect.
