Kartarpur Sahib Corridor closed, Operation Sindoor Latest News Today: Following Operation Sindoor by the Indian Armed Forces in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor has been closed until further notice as a precautionary measure amid heightened security tensions.
The Kartarpur Sahib Corridor, a significant pilgrimage route connecting India and Pakistan for Sikh devotees, has been temporarily closed until further notice due to heightened security concerns following India’s military operation, dubbed Operation Sindoor, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK).
The closure was announced as a precautionary measure in response to the escalating tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. The Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, 2025, conducting precision missile strikes on nine terror camps in locations including Muzaffarabad, Bahawalpur, and Kotli, which India claims were used to plan and execute attacks against it, notably the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 people.
Pakistan has condemned the strikes as an “act of war” and reported civilian casualties, including a child, while claiming to have retaliated with shelling across the Line of Control (LoC) and downing Indian aircraft, claims India denies.
The Kartarpur Sahib Corridor, inaugurated in November 2019, facilitates visa-free access for Indian pilgrims to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan’s Narowal district, a revered site associated with Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
The decision to suspend operations was made to ensure the safety of pilgrims amid the volatile situation, with both nations engaging in cross-border shelling and heightened military activity. Posts on X indicate that the closure was prompted by the deteriorating security environment following Operation Sindoor.
Indian authorities have not specified a timeline for reopening the corridor, stating that the decision will depend on the stabilization of the security situation. The Ministry of External Affairs emphasized that the closure is a temporary measure to safeguard pilgrims and urged Pakistan to refrain from actions that could further destabilize the region.
