West Bengal is heading into an election year, with political temperatures running high. The Mamata Banerjee–led All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) government has accused the Prime Minister-led Centre and the Election Commission of India of alleged “vote chori,” while the Centre has accused the West Bengal government of attempting to retain Bangladeshi infiltrators in the voters’ list.
According to the Economic Times, in 2026, assembly elections will take place in four states and one union territory, alongside scheduled urban local body polls in major states.
These are Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, and Puducherry during the first half of the year.
