Free Doorstep Life Certificate Service for Pensioners: EPFO and IPPB's Initiative

New Delhi, November 4, 2025 - The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) for doorstep submission of Digital Life Certificates (Jeevan Pramaan) for pensioners across the nation to bring comfort, dignity, and convenience to the pensioners.

This initiative, a part of the government’s Nationwide Digital Life Certificate Campaign 4.0, is aimed at simplification and digitisation of the annual process of life certificate submission for retirees. The EPFO will bear the entire cost of issuing these certificates to make the service completely free for pensioners.

Postmen and Gramin Dak Sevaks, equipped with biometric and face authentication devices, will visit pensioners at their homes to generate and upload their Digital Life Certificates. This step is likely to ease the process for senior citizens in rural and semi-urban areas, where access to banks or EPFO offices is often limited.

“This initiative fully supports the Government of India’s Digital India and Ease of Living vision,” said EPFO Commissioner Ramesh Krishnamurthi during the signing ceremony held on EPFO’s 73rd Foundation Day in New Delhi.

IPPB had first introduced its Doorstep Digital Life Certificate service in 2020. It allowed pensioners to generate Jeevan Pramaan using Aadhaar-enabled biometric authentication. With this new MoU, the service now extends its reach to EPFO pensioners nationwide.

Pensioners can either visit the nearest post office or contact their local postman or Gramin Dak Sevak to share their Aadhaar number and pension details. Once biometric verification is complete, they receive a confirmation SMS, and the digital certificate becomes instantly available online.

Benefits for the Pensioners

• Ease for Submission – Pensioners can now submit their Life Certificate from the comfort of their home, without visiting banks or EPFO offices.

• Free-of-cost service – EPFO covers the entire cost, keeping the service completely free.

• Fast Procedure – Digital verification reduces paperwork and speeds up processing.

• Doorstep Service – Reaches elderly and rural pensioners through India Post’s vast network.
