Former 3-Time Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren Passes Away Latest News: 

Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren passed away at the age of 81 on Monday. His son and current Chief Minister of the state, Hemant Soren, confirmed the demise in a post on X an hour ago at the time of filing this report.

“Respected Guru Dishom has left us all. Today, I have become empty...” Hemant Soren wrote in a deeply emotional post.

Shibu Soren was a prominent tribal leader and the founder of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). He served as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand three times.

According to a report by The Times of India, Shibu Soren was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in the last week of June due to a kidney-related issue.

Leaders across political party lines and admirers have poured in condolences on the demise of the former Jharkhand Chief Minister.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren in a phone call, and also conveyed his sympathies to the family and admirers.

In a post on X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote, “Shri Shibu Soren Ji was a grassroots leader who rose through the ranks of public life with unwavering dedication to the people. He was particularly passionate about empowering tribal communities, the poor and downtrodden. Pained by his passing away. My thoughts are with his family and admirers. Spoke to Jharkhand CM Shri Hemant Soren Ji and expressed condolences. Om Shanti.”

Leader of Opposition of the lower house and congress MP Rahul Gandhi also expressed his condolences in a post on X, saying, "I am deeply saddened to hear the news of the passing of Jharkhand’s former Chief Minister and senior JMM leader Shibu Soren Ji. A strong voice for the tribal community, Soren Ji fought tirelessly for their rights and entitlements. His role in the formation of Jharkhand will always be remembered. I express my deepest condolences to Hemant Soren Ji, the entire Soren family, and all of Guruji’s supporters."

Leader of Oppostion in the Upper House Malikarjun Kharge said he spoke to Hemant Soren expressing his condolences.

In a post on X, Malikarjun Kharge, wrote "I am saddened by the passing of Jharkhand's former Chief Minister, former Union Minister, and founder of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Shibu Soren ji. He dedicated his life to the struggle for a separate Jharkhand state and the rights of its people over water, forest, and land, as well as the preservation of tribal culture. I spoke with his son and Jharkhand's Chief Minister Hemandt Soren ji, expressing my deep condolences to his family and supporters. In this hour of grief, may God grant them strength."

BJD chief Naveen Patnaik also expressed his condolences in a post on X, saying, "Deeply saddened to learn about the passing away of former Jharkhand Chief Minister and founder of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha Shibu Soren. He was a prominent tribal leader and will be remembered for his dedication to fight for the rights of the tribal and marginalised people. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family, friends, and followers in the hour of grief. #OmShanti"
