FASTag Annual Pass: Eligibility, Price, and Activation Procedure

FASTag Annual Pass Explaination Latest News: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is slated to introduce a FASTag Annual Pass for frequent highway travelers starting August 15, 2025.

This pass is exclusively designed for private, non-commercial vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans. It does not apply to commercial vehicles.

The FASTag Annual Pass will be available at a fixed price of Rs 3,000 for the base year 2025–26.

The pass offers either one year of validity or up to 200 toll-free trips on authorized National Highways (NH) and National Expressways (NE) fee plazas, whichever comes first.

It can be activated through the RajmargYatra mobile application or the NHAI website. To activate the annual pass, users must verify their vehicle’s eligibility and associated FASTag on either the app or the website.

Once verification is complete, a payment of Rs 3,000 must be made for the 2025–26 period. The pass will be activated within two hours of successful payment.

The primary goal of this initiative is to offer cost-effective travel for frequent highway users by replacing multiple toll payments with a single, affordable yearly fee.

The FASTag Annual Pass is not mandatory; existing FASTag users can continue using their tags under the current per-trip fee system.

If a FASTag Annual Pass is used with a commercial vehicle, the pass will be deactivated without any notification.

Additionally, the pass does not cover toll plazas on state highways or those managed by local bodies, where regular FASTag charges will continue to apply.

At such plazas, including those on state highways and those operated by state governments or local authorities, the FASTag will function as a regular tag, and applicable toll fees will be charged.

According to a report by OneIndia, the definition of a "single trip" under this initiative varies depending on the type of toll plaza:

  • At point-based toll plazas, each crossing counts as one trip, and a round trip counts as two trips.
  • At closed tolling systems, an entry-exit pair constitutes one trip.

Once either 200 trips have been completed or one year has passed, the annual pass will return to the regular FASTag system unless it is re-activated for the next period.
