Dog bite cases are rising and residents suffering while the departments pass the buck

Chandigarh, 4th march: The data compiled by Punjab Government on dog bite cases shows an increase in the cases, with as many as 1.13 lakh cases reported in the year 2018. This may not be a correct number, with all chances of it being higher, as all the cases are not reported in the hospitals. Disturbingly, almost 50% victims are children.

Even when the number of dog bites is so high, the three government departments jointly responsible for dog menace are busy passing the blame onto each other. The three departments namely Local Bodies, Rural Development and Panchayats, and Animal Husbandry are not working in coordination, leaving the ground situation unchanged, and the residents high and dry.
