Operation AKHAL: Two Terrorists Neutralised in Akhal Forest, Kulgam (J&K)
Kulgam, Jammu & Kashmir – Operation AKHAL is ongoing in the Akhal forest region of Kulgam district, Jammu and Kashmir. According to sources, two terrorists have been neutralised, while another is believed to be injured.
Blasts and intermittent gunfire reportedly continued throughout the night in the dense Akhal forests, with sources stating that this could turn out to be one of the biggest anti-terror operations of the year.
One Indian Army soldier has sustained injuries during the operation.
High-tech surveillance systems and elite Para Special Forces are involved in the ongoing mission. Senior officials from both the police and army are closely monitoring the situation on the ground.
On August 1, the Chinar Corps of the Indian Army confirmed that contact had been established with terrorists in the General Area of Akhal, Kulgam, and a joint operation was underway.
On the morning of August 2, the Chinar Corps further reported that intermittent and intense firefighting had continued through the night.
A statement from the Corps read, "Alert troops responded with calibrated fire and tightened the noose while maintaining contact. One terrorist has been neutralised by the security forces so far. Operation continues."
As of now, two terrorists have been eliminated, and the search operation is still in progress.
