Uttarakhand Rishikesh Sikh Mob Attack Latest News Today: In yet another incident of mob violence, a Sikh-owned business in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, was attacked over a petty parking dispute. The Rajeet Royal Enfield Agency, owned by two Sikh brothers, was vandalized as a mob pelted stones and assaulted the owners. In a blatant act of religious disrespect, one of the victims had his turban forcibly removed during the attack.
Shockingly, the local police remained silent spectators, failing to intervene as the situation escalated. The incident has raised serious concerns about law and order in Uttarakhand, with many comparing the state’s deteriorating security situation to that of Uttar Pradesh, where mob violence often goes unchecked.
This comes at a time when social media was already ablaze with debates over another incident in Himachal Pradesh, where right-wing groups justified targeting individuals over their dietary choices. Critics are now questioning the silence of these groups regarding the targeted attack on Sikh businessmen in Rishikesh.
SGPC Demands Immediate Action
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has taken serious note of the incident and has written a formal letter to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, urging strict action against the perpetrators. In the letter, SGPC Chief Secretary Kulwant Singh Mannan called the attack “deeply distressing and shocking”, emphasizing the gravity of removing the turban and dishonoring the Sikh identity.
The letter has urged the Uttarakhand government to:
- Take immediate and strict action against those responsible.
- Ensure the police promptly intervene in such cases to prevent mob violence.
- File an FIR against the attackers, ensuring legal provisions for hurting religious sentiments are included.
- The SGPC has warned that failure to act swiftly and decisively will further endanger the minority Sikh community in Uttarakhand.
With increasing incidents of mob justice replacing the rule of law, the question remains: Will the Uttarakhand government take a stand, or will it allow the state to descend into lawlessness?
