A senior official from Maharashtra Cyber said there has been a surge in cyberattacks since the incident.

Pakistan-Backed Hackers target Indian website, latest news: Pakistan-backed hackers attempted to breach Indian websites on Thursday but were detected and thwarted by Indian cybersecurity agencies, India Today reported.

According to the report, hacker groups including 'Cyber Group HOAX1337' and 'National Cyber Crew' targeted the websites of Army Public Schools in Jammu, attempting to write derogatory messages mocking the victims of the recent Pahalgam terror incident.

In another cyberattack, a website providing healthcare services for ex-servicemen was defaced. The Army Institute of Hotel Management and Indian Air Force veterans were also targeted.

Apart from army-linked websites, Pakistan-backed actors have repeatedly tried to breach websites related to children, elderly veterans, and civilians, the report said, citing officials.

The Maharashtra Cyber Department reportedly recorded 10 lakh cyberattacks on Indian systems by hackers from various countries, including Pakistan, following the Pahalgam attack. A senior official from Maharashtra Cyber said there has been a surge in cyberattacks since the incident.

The report added that analysts believe these cybercrimes are part of a coordinated campaign to inflame tensions online. “They are seen as elements of Pakistan's broader hybrid warfare strategy, which has long involved the use of terrorism and information warfare against India,” the report stated.
