Every bank in India, whether scheduled (regulated under the RBI Act) or non-scheduled (smaller banks not listed under the RBI Schedule), will be closed on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of every month. This rule is part of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI)'s guidelines and has been in effect since September 1, 2015.
List of Bank Holidays in May 2025:
May 1 (Wednesday) – Labour Day / Maharashtra Day
Banks will remain closed in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Manipur, Kerala, West Bengal, Goa, and Bihar.
May 9 (Friday) – Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti
Banks will remain closed in West Bengal.
May 12 (Monday) – Buddha Purnima
Banking services will be unavailable in Arunachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, New Delhi, Srinagar, Tripura, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh.
May 16 (Friday) – Sikkim State Day
Banks will remain closed in Sikkim.
May 26 (Monday) – Birthday of Kazi Nazrul Islam
Banks will remain closed in Tripura.
May 29 (Thursday) – Maharana Pratap Jayanti
Banks will remain closed in Himachal Pradesh.
