Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of the 32-kilometre Kaziranga elevated corridor
Assam News: Four new bridges over the Brahmaputra River are under construction in the northeastern state of Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Thursday (January 1, 2026), while speaking about developmental projects in the state, news agency ANI reported.
He added that the Guwahati–North Guwahati connecting bridge will be opened for public use in February.
The chief minister further stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of the 32-kilometre Kaziranga elevated corridor (total length nearly 34 kilometres), with an estimated cost of rupees 6,957 crore, on January 17 or 18.
Sarma also said that the twin-tube underwater tunnel connecting Gohpur to Numaligarh will be a road-cum-rail project costing rupees 22,000 crore, adding that it has been approved by the Finance Ministry.
He added that Prime Minister Modi will also lay the foundation stone of the proposed Gelephu railway line project in February.
“The proposed elevated corridor will be near the Guwahati airport. Aerocity will be constructed on 68 acres of land. An MoU has signed with the Asian Development Bank, and a new modern hospital will be constructed at Guwahati Medical College (the current hospital will be completely demolished) with a cost of rupees 2,200 crore. We will inaugurate the 120 MW Kopili hydro project soon...” he further added.
