The letter comes amid heightened tensions ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections in 2025.
New Delhi, January 1, 2024: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal has written a letter to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Chief Mohan Bhagwat, raising pointed questions about the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) actions and their impact on India's democracy.
In his letter, Kejriwal questioned whether the RSS supports the alleged "wrongdoings" of the BJP, including vote-buying and the manipulation of electoral processes. He accused BJP leaders of distributing money openly to secure votes and raised concerns about the large-scale deletion of Dalit and Purvanchali voters' names from electoral rolls.
"Does the RSS believe that these actions are acceptable in a democracy? Doesn’t the RSS think that the BJP is weakening democracy with such practices?" Kejriwal wrote.
The letter comes amid heightened tensions ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections in 2025. Earlier, AAP spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar alleged that BJP leaders were actively manipulating voter lists in Delhi. Kakkar claimed that BJP leader Vishal Bharadwaj filed applications to delete voters' names in the Shahdara constituency, targeting Purvanchali voters.
"In the New Delhi constituency, BJP leader Parvesh Sharma distributed money for votes and submitted conflicting applications to the Election Commission to manipulate voter rolls," Kakkar alleged.
On Sunday, Kejriwal himself accused the BJP of tampering with voter lists, a claim that the Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi later clarified, stating that all objections and claims regarding the electoral roll were addressed by December 24. The final electoral roll will be published on January 6, 2025.
As the political showdown between AAP and BJP intensifies, Kejriwal’s letter to the RSS Chief marks a significant move in questioning the BJP’s democratic accountability.
