Haryana No-Confidence Motion Collapses: CM Saini Quotes Tagore, Counters Opposition Allegations

On Friday, in a session of the Haryana Legislative Assembly, the Congress Party’s no-confidence motion against the BJP-led state government under CM Nayab Singh Saini was defeated after a prolonged debate. The motion ultimately fell through a voice vote when the opposition walked out of the House and led to its unanimous rejection.

According to sources, the no-confidence motion was moved by Beri Congress MLA Dr Raghuvir Singh Kadian, who accused the Saini government of losing the trust of the people due to what it described as “anti-people policies, corruption and weak governance”. Kadian claimed rampant crime in the state, alleging that 80 gangs were operating without arrests and extortion was widespread. He also demanded a High Court judicial inquiry into the suicide of senior IPS officer Y Puran Kumar and criticised unemployment, illegal migration of youth, and poor sports infrastructure that had allegedly led to the deaths of two basketball players.

CM Nayab Singh Saini responded to the allegations and dismissed the motion as borne out of the opposition’s “disappointment and political grudges”. He argued that it was drafted hastily. He rebutted claims of “tunnel vision” and asserted that his government’s vision was similar to Arjun’s eye on the target, focused on realising a Viksit Bharat by 2047 under the philosophy of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas”. According to sources, Saini, while quoting Rabindranath Tagore, said his idea of a developed Haryana was “where the mind is without fear, and the head is held high, where knowledge is free.”

In response to specific issues raised, Saini said that Haryana had no space for criminals and talked about efforts such as arrests and weapon seizures to control crime, while rejecting “vote chori” allegations by noting that Congress had won both Assembly and Lok Sabha seats in Ambala and Mullana. He also highlighted lower unemployment rates compared to other states and said the current government had delivered nearly two lakh jobs.

The session became heated, when Saini’s use of national figures and infrastructure references drew objections from Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who accused the government of focus diversion. The Congress members staged a walkout, being frustrated by the government’s responses, sealing the fate of the motion.

With this defeat, the Saini government has successfully thwarted yet another attempt by the opposition to challenge its majority and highlighted the BJP’s firm legislative position in Haryana.
