Become a 'Raha-Veer': Haryana Offers INR 25,000 for Timely Accident Help
The Panchkula police have launched an awareness campaign for the ‘Raha-Veer Yojana’, taking an initiative to save lives during the critical ‘Golden Hour’.
Under this scheme, any citizen who assists a road accident victim and ensures they reach a hospital in time will be recognised as a "Raha-Veer". These good Samaritans are eligible for a cash reward of INR 25,000 along with a certificate of appreciation from the government.
DCP (Crime and Traffic) Manpreet Singh Sudan said that the scheme was introduced by the Centre and implemented in Haryana in 2025. The aim of the scheme is to utilise the first hour after an accident to save lives.
Despite these incentives, the DCP noted that awareness remains low, as many people still hesitate to help due to fears of police or legal issues. He emphasised that such helpers are protected under the Motor Vehicles Act, which guarantees complete legal immunity.
A traffic police team led by SHO Abhishek conducted a drive in the Surajpur area on Thursday for spreading awareness.
. During the interaction with motorists and local residents, officials explained that those stepping forward to help will not face any legal challenge.
Instead, the initiative seeks to honour those who provide timely medical attention to the injured, ensuring that fear of the law does not stand in the way of saving a life.
