Haryana Cracks Down on Medicine Overpricing: Health Minister Assures Affordable Drugs for All
Haryana Health Minister Arti Singh Rao has reiterated that the state government is keeping a strict watch on medicine prices in the public interest and is committed to ensuring the availability of affordable and essential medicines to all citizens. Rao said stringent monitoring of medicine prices is being undertaken in Haryana to effectively curb overcharging at any level and protect public health.
She explained that under the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) guidelines, the Price Monitoring and Resource Unit (PMRU), functioning under the state’s Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) Department, ensures that medicines are supplied at rates fixed by the government. Rao stated, “The objective is to ensure that life-saving medicines are available at reasonable and regulated prices,” adding the measures are aimed at safeguarding the health and welfare of Haryana residents.
Manoj Kumar, Commissioner of FDA Haryana, informed that during 2025, 33 cases of medicine overcharging reported in the state were forwarded to the NPPA, New Delhi, for action, reflecting the government’s zero-tolerance policy on price violations. In December 2025, PMRU detected violations of the Drug Price Control Order (DPCO) in three medicines where the MRP exceeded prescribed rates, and action was initiated against the companies.
He also said the government has been conducting public awareness programmes across districts, urging citizens to use the “Pharma Sahi Daam” mobile app to check correct medicine prices and report overcharging through the PMRU toll-free number 1800-180-2413.
