Chandigarh Electricity Price Hike Latest News Today: In a major setback to the people of Chandigarh, the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) has announced a hike in the power tariff for Chandigarh, which will be applicable from August 1.
As per the new rates, the domestic category consumers will now have to pay a fixed charge of Rs 30 a month as against the current charge of Rs 15 a month. According to information, the tariff per unit in the 0-150 kWh slab, will continue to remain Rs 2.75 per unit, while in the 151-400 kWh slab, it will increase from Rs 4.25 per unit to ₹4.80 per unit.
On the other hand, the major tariff change for the commercial and non-residential buildings category is in the slab above 400 kWh per month, wherein the tariff will increase from Rs 5 per unit to Rs 5.9 per unit.
Last month, the UT electricity department filed a petition to the JERC. They proposed a hike of up to 19.44%.
As per the proposal, the fixed charge was to be increased from Rs 15 a month to Rs 40 per month besides a hike from Rs 4.25 per unit to Rs 4.90 per unit in the slab of 151-400 units and an increase from Rs 4.65 per unit to Rs 5.50 per unit in the slab of 401 and above was also proposed.
In the domestic high tension (HT) category, the department proposed a hike from Rs 4.30 to Rs 5 per unit.
