Caste Discrimination Case: Rahul Gandhi Meets Family of Late IPS Officer Y Puran Kumar in Chandigarh: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi visited the residence of late Haryana IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar in Chandigarh to meet his grieving family.
IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar died by suicide on October 7, allegedly after facing decades of caste-based discrimination. He belonged to the Dalit community.

On October 9, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), Rahul Gandhi described the suicide of the IPS officer as a “symbol of the deepening social poison that is crushing humanity in the name of caste.”
Drawing a comparison between a common underprivileged man and the IPS officer, Rahul wrote, “When an IPS officer has to endure humiliation and oppression because of his caste, then imagine the conditions in which an ordinary Dalit citizen must be living.”

He further added, “The murder of Hariom Valmiki in Rae Bareli, the insult to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and now Puran ji's death, these incidents show that injustice against the marginalized is at its peak.”
Rahul Gandhi strongly criticized the BJP, alleging that the party, along with the RSS, has spread hatred through Manuvadi ideology that has "poisoned society."
“Dalits, tribals, backward classes, and Muslims are losing hope for justice today,” he stated.
He stated that this struggle is not just Puran ji's but that of every Indian who believes in the Constitution, equality, and justice.
