Chandigarh Police Forms 6 Member SIT to Probe Alleged Suicide Case of  ADGP Y. Puran Kumar Latest: Chandigarh police on Friday afternoon constituted a 6 Member Special Investigation Team, headed by an IG-rank officer, to investigate the suicide case of ADGP Y. Puran Kumar.

Y. Puran Kumar, in his purported suicide note, has named nine serving IPS officers of the Haryana Police, a retired IPS officer, and three retired IAS officers, accusing them of caste-based discrimination, public humiliation, targeted mental harassment, and atrocities that pushed him to take the extreme step.

The SIT comprises the following members:

  •  Pushpendra Kumar, IPS, IGP, UT, Chandigarh — Head
  • Kanwardeep Kaur, IPS, Senior Superintendent of Police, UT, Chandigarh — Member
  • K M Priyanka, IPS, SP/City — Member
  • Charanjit Singh Virk, CPS, DSP/Traffic — Member/IO
  • Gurjit Kaur, CPS, SDPO/South — Member
  • Insp. Jaiveer Singh Rana, No. 693/CHG, SHO/PS-11 (West) — Member

In view of the gravity and sensitivity of allegations, the probing team has been constituted, with immediate effect to conduct a prompt, impartial, and thorough investigation of the case under the supervision of IGP, UT, Chandigarh, the order said.

The team will prepare the final report upon completion of the investigation.

Haryana's Additional Chief Secretary, D Suresh Kumar in stated ment said, "We have requested for fair and quick investigation and immediate arrest of  DGP Shatrujeet Kapoor and SP Rohtak."

Earlier today, the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC), Government of India suo motu cognizance, issued notices to the Chief Secretary of Chandigarh, Government of the Union Territory of Chandigarh, and the Director General of Police, Chandigarh Police Headquarters, directing them to submit an action-taken report within seven days.

The 50-year-old, Y. Puran Kumar, belonged to a scheduled caste community. 

Meanwhile, Union Minister Chirag Paswan wrote a letter to Chief Minister Naib Saini, urging the government to conduct a fair and impartial investigation into the IPS suicide case. He also demanded that those held responsible for the death be investigated and action taken against them.

Additionally, Punjab MLA, Harpal Singh Cheema, accused the Bhartiya Janata Party, stating that during its rule, the Atrocities against Dalits crossed every limit — from the Chief Justice of India being attacked to now a senior IPS officer driven to suicide.

"This is oppression," he said, adding, "We demand an independent judicial inquiry. BJP will pay for this injustice."
