The huge response arrives as India and Pakistan are facing growing military tensions.

Chandigarh Youth Come Forward as Civil Defence Volunteers in Face of Growing India-Pakistan Tensions latest news: In a remarkable show of civic duty and patriotism, hundreds of youth turned up at Chandigarh's Tagore Theatre on Saturday, May 10, an appeal by local authorities to join as Civil Defence Volunteers. The move which was intended to enhance emergency preparedness and build resilience, resonated with the youth of the city.

The appeal was issued by the Sh. Nishant Kumar Yadav DC of UT Chandigarh, who on Friday requested young citizens above the age of 18 years to register for civil defense. The Chandigarh administration rode social media to drive home the point, posting on X: "APPEAL TO THE YOUTH, Serve the Nation. Be Prepared."

The huge response arrives as India and Pakistan are facing growing military tensions. Just a few days after a terrorist attack on April 22 in Kashmir, Islamabad ordered drone and missile attacks on several cities, including Chandigarh, on May 8. But India's sophisticated air defence systems repelled the attacks, with debris found at several points as proof.

Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri described Pakistan's action as "provocative and escalatory" while speaking at a press conference in New Delhi. In turn, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi disclosed that Pakistan had made an attempt to target an airbase in Punjab, and in response, India had carried out precision strikes on Pakistani airbases.

On Saturday, the Indian government said Pakistan had attacked 26 targets throughout the country. New Delhi blamed Pakistani troops for targeting civilian zones, such as medical and educational institutions in Kashmir.

The latest escalation comes after India's Operation Sindoor, a series of precision air strikes carried out on May 7, against terrorist camps across the border in retaliation for the Kashmir attack.

With emotions running high, the young Chandigarh volunteers are an example of the preparedness spirit and solidarity. In the era of doubt, they are opting to make a contribution towards national security—exhibiting that courage is not only constructed on weapons, but also by the unshakeable commitment of common people.
