Chandigarh is anticipated to experience above-average rainfall in August
Chandigarh Weather Forecast Update News: According to the long-range forecast provided by probability models, Chandigarh is anticipated to experience above-average rainfall in August. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) released this forecast on Thursday, indicating that the city will likely receive more rain than the average of 284.8 mm for the month.
While July saw below-average rainfall, the forecast suggests a turnaround in August. IMD Chandigarh director Surender Paul explained that although July was expected to have above-average rain, the anticipated La Niña current did not develop as projected. Despite overall strong monsoon activity in various parts of the country, Chandigarh's location, distant from the Bay of Bengal, means it relies on cyclonic circulation over the Bay to bring substantial rain. The absence of such circulation limited the reach of heavy monsoon winds, which barely reached South Delhi.
Additionally, there were no significant western disturbances in July.
August has already started on a wet note, with 23.8 mm of rain recorded at the IMD’s Sector 39 observatory during the night between Wednesday and Thursday, and 39.4 mm at the airport observatory. Although rain is expected to continue in the coming days, the intensity is likely to decrease, with a further reduction anticipated from August 4.
The recent rain has led to a drop in temperatures, with the maximum falling from 37.4°C on Wednesday to 32.6°C on Thursday, 0.6°C below normal. The minimum temperature also decreased from 28.6°C to 25.6°C, 1.1°C below normal.
Over the next three days, temperatures are expected to range between 35°C and 36°C for the maximum and between 24°C and 26°C for the minimum.
The long-range forecast suggests that August will bring a significant increase in rainfall, making it notably wetter than July.
