Centre Steps In: Blinkit, Zepto and Swiggy to Drop ‘10-Minute Delivery’ Promise Over Rider Safety
Leading platforms including Blinkit, Zepto, and Swiggy have decided to scrap their popular "10-minute delivery" service in a major shift for India’s quick-commerce sector.
The decision comes following a high-level meeting between the government and platform aggregators, where Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya raised serious concerns regarding the safety and mental stress of gig workers.
Official sources indicate that the voluntary move is focused on improving the working conditions of delivery partners, who often face immense pressure and hazardous driving conditions to meet the 10-minute deadline.
Blinkit has reportedly already begun removing the "10-minute" promise from its branding and app interface, with other major players expected to follow suit in the coming days.
The "instant delivery" model has faced intense scrutiny in recent months. Notably, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha had also raised this issue in Parliament, describing the 10-minute mandate as "cruelty" toward workers who are forced to risk their lives.
The industry will now pivot toward a more sustainable delivery timeframe, prioritizing the safety and social security of the workforce over rapid speed.
"This industry shift comes as the Code on Social Security, 2020, which became effective on November 21, 2025, provides legal definitions for ‘gig’ and ‘platform’ workers for the first time.
The Code mandates social security measures, including accident insurance and health benefits, while establishing a National Social Security Board to oversee the welfare of these workers."
