We look forward to working with Jio and obtaining authorization from the Government of India to provide more individuals
Jio Platforms Partners With Elon Musk’s Starlink for High-Speed Internet, Subject to Authorization latest news: Mukesh Ambani-owned Jio Platforms Limited (JPL) has signed an agreement with Elon Musk’s SpaceX to operate Starlink’s high-speed broadband internet services in India.
Regarding this agreement, Group CEO of Reliance Jio, Mathew Oommen, said, “Ensuring that every Indian, no matter where they live, has access to affordable and high-speed broadband remains Jio’s top priority.”
He further stated, “Our collaboration with SpaceX to bring Starlink to India strengthens our commitment and marks a transformative step toward seamless broadband connectivity for all. By integrating Starlink into Jio’s broadband ecosystem,
we are expanding our reach and enhancing the reliability and accessibility of high-speed broadband internet in this AI-driven era, empowering communities and businesses across the country.”
Jio Platforms will facilitate seamless access to Starlink equipment for its customers by incorporating Starlink solutions into its extensive network of retail outlets. This initiative aims to enhance customer convenience by making Starlink’s satellite-based internet technology readily available through Jio’s established distribution channels, ensuring a smooth purchasing and installation experience.
Gwynne Shotwell, President and Chief Operating Officer of SpaceX, praised Jio’s initiative, stating, “We applaud Jio’s commitment to advancing India’s connectivity.”
He added, “We look forward to working with Jio and obtaining authorization from the Government of India to provide more individuals, organizations, and businesses with access to Starlink’s high-speed internet services.”
Despite forging strategic partnerships with major Indian telecom players, the launch and full-scale deployment of Starlink’s satellite internet services in India remain on hold.
This delay is due to the requirement for SpaceX to secure the necessary regulatory approvals from Indian authorities. Until these clearances are granted, SpaceX is unable to commercially offer or operate its satellite-based internet services within the country.
