CM Nitish said that journalists have an important role in democracy.

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar made a big announcement for journalists by posting on his X handle. Under the Bihar Patrakar Samman Pension Yojana, the department has been instructed to provide a pension amount of Rs 15,000 instead of Rs 6,000 to all the journalists every month.

Also, in case of the death of journalists receiving pension under the Bihar Patrakar Samman Pension Yojana, their dependent husband/wife has been instructed to be given a pension amount of Rs 10 thousand instead of Rs 3 thousand per month for life.

CM Nitish said that journalists have an important role in democracy. They are the fourth pillar of democracy and have an important role in social development, he said, adding it is the responsibility of the government to take care of the facilities of journalists so that they can do their journalism impartially and live their lives after retirement.

Lok Janshakti Party spokesperson Dr. Shashi Bhushan Prasad and Rajesh Bhatt tweeted that the increase in pension to journalists is a very respectable and commendable step by the Chief Minister.
