Home Ministry orders removal of a Pakistani from Bhagalpur, Bihar Voter List, Latest News: District Magistrate (DM) of Bhagalpur, Bihar, on Sunday said that the name of a Pakistani woman who came to India in 1956, and whose name is in the Bihar voter list, will be deleted after investigation, and the process to remove her from the voter list has also been initiated.
DM Naval Kishor Chaudhary, talking to ANI, said, "As per information, her name was found to be in the voter list, and after verification, Form 7 has been filled for her name deletion. After due process and investigation, her name will be deleted..."
The woman’s name was even verified in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list carried out in the poll-bound state.
The development comes after the Home Ministry started carrying out an investigation regarding foreign nationals who had overstayed their visa period, and the elderly woman was identified in Bihar’s Bhagalpur.
Booth Level Officer Farzana Khanam, speaking on the matter, told the media that the elderly woman identified as Imrana Khanam is ‘not in a condition’ to talk due to age and illness.
Booth Level Officer Farzana Khanam said she received a letter from the Home Ministry on 11 August, and as per the order, she has begun the process of removing the name.
"... I received a letter from the department with her passport number, which I cross-checked. We have been asked to remove her name. Her name is Imrana Khanam... She was not in a condition to talk; she is old and unwell. As per the orders of the department, I filled out the form and began the process of removing her name. Her passport is of 1956, and she got her visa in 1958. She is from Pakistan... The next step of the investigation will be carried out by the department... I had received a notice from the Home Ministry on 11 August,” the Booth Level Officer said.
Election Commission has received documents of 98.2 per cent of electors in Bihar in the SIR . Only eight days are left in the Claims, Objections and Documents period of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll in the state, the ECI said on Sunday, according to ANI.
Bihar, from June 24 to August 24, 2025, in 60 days, 98.2 per cent of persons have submitted their documents, according to the ECI press note cited in the ANI report.
1.8 per cent of electors are yet to submit documents by September 1. The exercise to collect their documents with the help of BLOs and volunteers is going on.
