Patna, 5 August 2025 — The Department of Industries, Government of Bihar, organized the “Bihar Biofuel Dialogues 2025” at Hotel Maurya, Patna.

On this special occasion, the much-awaited  Biofuel Production Promotion (Amended) Policy 2025 was formally unveiled.

This policy is a visionary step towards promoting green energy in the state, encouraging the production of Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG), enhancing farmers’ income, and accelerating sustainable development. The official launch of the Biofuel Production Promotion (Amended) Policy 2025 took place in the esteemed presence of Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister Shri Samrat Choudhary and Hon’ble Industries Minister Shri Nitish Mishra.

Shri Yashpal Meena, Director, Handloom & Sericulture Directorate, delivered the welcome address. This was followed by a brief presentation by Shri Mihir Kumar Singh, Additional Chief Secretary, Industries Department, highlighting the potential of biofuel—especially CBG—production in Bihar and the anticipated impact of the new policy. He emphasized that CBG production in Bihar will promote green energy and benefit farmers, entrepreneurs, and the environment alike. The amendments in the policy offer clear direction and incentives to investors.

Hon’ble Industries Minister Shri Nitish Mishra, in his address, stated that Bihar’s policy in the biofuel sector is designed to inspire innovation, investment, and enterprise. It not only showcases the state’s commitment to green energy but also opens new avenues for farmers. Bihar is poised to become one of the leading states in biofuel production in the near future. This policy is a significant step toward the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India).

Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister Shri Samrat Choudhary emphasized the need for Bihar to focus on alternatives like CBG. He said that the time is ripe to realize the Waste to Wealth vision, which will yield economic, environmental and social benefits for the state. This policy will serve as a strong foundation for a greener Bihar in the years to come.

During the “Industry Speaks” session, various investors appreciated the state government’s policy and expressed serious interest in investing in the CBG sector.

Currently, there are 12 ethanol production units operational in Bihar, with a combined production capacity of 1617.5 kilolitres per day. BIADA will lease out 25% of industrial land in designated industrial areas to Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and private suppliers for setting up CBG units at a rate of Rs75,000 per acre per year for 30 years.

Following this event, Bihar is expected to attract significant investments, thereby further accelerating the state’s economic and environmental progress.
