Rajesh Ram, INDIA Bloc Leaders Meet Election Commissioner Over Voter List in Bihar

Delhi: A delegation of India Alliance met the Chief Election Commissioner in Delhi today against the voter revision being done by the Election Commission before the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar.

Leaders of Congress, RJD, Left parties, SP and other allied parties were present in the delegation of India Alliance. During this, Bihar Congress President Rajesh Ram was also a part of the delegation.

State Congress President Rajesh Ram said that we have lodged strong protest against this undemocratic process and have demanded the Election Commissioner to stop it immediately. The Election Commission is doing the work of voter revision before the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections to deprive the voters of their right to vote. An attempt is being made to snatch away the right of every person to cast one vote in the constitutional right given by Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar. After about 45 minutes of struggle, they met us and kept ignoring our words.  There are two types of population in Bihar, one is South Bihar where there is drought, so people from there migrate to Punjab and Haryana to work as laborers, how will they be able to get their verification done to smoothen the voting process. Whereas in North Bihar, 80% of the population is affected by floods, demanding documents there is highly condemnable. We have eight crore voters and it is clear from the Election Commission's statements that there is a pre-planned plan to prevent 20% voters from voting. Verification in two months in flood-affected Bihar is completely impractical. The Election Commission's intention is clear that this time an attempt is being made to influence the elections by reducing the number of voters in Bihar. We will fight for the rights of the voters of Bihar and with our rock solid unity, we will try to protect the rights of the voters.

During this time, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh, AICC Media Department Chairman Pawan Khera, Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi and CWC member and Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Akhilesh Prasad Singh, including leaders and representatives of all the constituent parties of the India Alliance were present with us.
