Google CEO Sundar Pichai on Wednesday said India is already undergoing a transformation that could lead to the emergence of a globally leading artificial intelligence company from within the country. He said the ecosystem has matured significantly and is now producing “extraordinary” homegrown firms.

Pichai praised the strong developer base and vibrant entrepreneurial environment in India. Speaking during his visit to attend the India AI Impact Summit, he responded to a question about what would need to change for the “next Sundar” to remain in India and build a world-class company from here. He said that change is already happening.

Referring to startups such as Flipkart and Oyo, Pichai said India has been creating remarkable companies that have grown and expanded successfully. He noted that these businesses were founded in India and are performing well on a global scale.

He also highlighted the high level of developer activity in cities like Bengaluru and described the country’s startup landscape as thriving. According to him, the momentum in technology and innovation is strong.

Pichai pointed to advancements in artificial intelligence, mentioning that companies like Sarvam are developing local AI models. He said this shows that advanced innovation is taking shape within India. He added that he sees no barriers preventing India from building globally competitive AI firms and believes the country is well positioned for future growth.
