IBM to Train 5 Million Indian Youth in AI, Cybersecurity & Quantum by 2030

On Friday, American technology major IBM announced a skilling initiative in India. Under the initiative, it is set to train 5 million learners in frontier technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity and quantum computing by the year 2030, the company said in a statement.

According to IBM, the programme will be delivered under the company’s established ‘IBM SkillsBuild’ platform and is focused on building a future-ready workforce by broadening access to advanced digital skills and improving employability for both students and adult learners across the country.

IBM said the initiative will work across multiple levels of the education and training ecosystem. It will expand AI and emerging technology education not just in urban centres but also across schools, universities and vocational training environments. The company plans to collaborate with key educational bodies, including the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), to promote hands-on learning pathways. These partnerships are expected to support faculty enablement programmes, curriculum integration, hackathons and internship opportunities.

Arvind Krishna, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of IBM, said that “India possesses the talent and ambition to lead the world in AI & Quantum,” and that fluency in such frontier technologies will be critical to shaping future economic competitiveness, scientific progress and broader societal transformation. He added that by democratising access to advanced skills, the initiative aims to empower youth and students to build, innovate and accelerate India’s growth.

According to IBM, the company highlighted that this India-specific target is part of a wider global mission to equip 30 million people worldwide with new digital and tech-based skills by 2030.

IBM’s SkillsBuild platform offers a range of industry-relevant courses. It is designed to provide learners with access to courses spanning AI, cybersecurity, quantum computing and other advanced technologies, along with soft skills and workplace readiness skills that enhance overall job prospects, IBM said.

This initiative reflects increasing corporate participation in addressing India’s skill gap in high-growth tech fields and aligns with national priorities to prepare the workforce for rapid digital transformation.
