JU students tie rakhis to plants

Jammu: Students, research scholars and faculty members of the Department of Botany, University of Jammu (JU), celebrated Raksha Bandhan in a unique way by tying rakhis to plants today.

Jammu: Students, research scholars and faculty members of the Department of Botany, University of Jammu (JU), celebrated Raksha Bandhan in a unique way by tying rakhis to plants today.

The festive event was organised in the botanical garden of the university wherein the sacred threads were tied by students to several plants of heritage, medicinal and aesthetic value. The students also took a pledge to protect and conserve the nature and its resources for cleaner, greener and healthier prospects.

Prof Yash Pal Sharma, head, Department of Botany, said, “In the present times, besides strengthening family bonds, it is increasingly imperative on our part to develop a strong relationship with the flora and fauna.” Prof Namrata Sharma, Dr Geeta, Dr Sikander Pal, non-teaching staff, students and research scholars of the expressed their views on environment.
