The maximum of 97 roads are blocked in Mandi district, 69 in Kangra, 60 in Hamirpur and 55 in Shimla district and more than 300 JCBs, dozers and tippers have been pressed into service to open the roads but the ongoing heavy rain is obstructing the work, said an officer of the Public Works Department (PWD), adding that till now the total loss caused to the department had risen to Rs 290 crore.
Dehra Gopipur, which received 174 mm of rain in the past 24 hours, was the wettest in the region followed by Bhoranj 160 mm, Dharamsala 144 mm, Gaggal 107 mm, Baldwara 85 mm, Sujanpur Tihra 74 mm, Nagrota Surian 63 mm, Aghar 60 mm, Hamirpur 54 mm, Pachhad and Ghumarwin 44 mm each, Bharwain 42 mm, Guler 32 mm, Palampur 29 mm, Shimla 28 mm, Bharari 25 mm, Rajgarh 17 mm, Nadaun 15 mm, Una, Solan and Baijnath 12 mm each, Salooni 11 mm and Karsog 10 mm.
