Shimla: Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today said that the people of the state were well aware of the changing loyalties of Vijai Singh Mankotia, whenever the elections draw nearer.

Reacting to the outburst by Mankotia, Virbhadra said this is nothing new as he has always indulged in these kinds of theatrics, close to the polls. “The people of the state cannot be misled by such baseless as they are aware about his double standards,” he remarked.

Accusing Congress leader and former Minister Vijay Singh Mankotia of playing in the hands of the BJP, Forest Minister Thakur Singh Bharmouri and Excise and Taxation Minister Prakash Chaudhary also condemned him for issuing baseless statements against the Chief Minister.

In a joint statement issued here today, they said his statement indicates desperation of a person who has been repeatedly rejected by the people. “He is in the habit of making false and unfounded allegations against the government and the Chief Minister whenever the elections are round the corner. It seems once again he is playing in the hands of BJP and trying to mislead the people by spreading all sort of lies,” they remarked.

They said after enjoying the benefits of power, he always speaks against the Chief Minister and government which amply speaks of his double standards. Before seeking resignation of Virbhadra Singh, he should have considered the popularity and mandate given by the people to the Chief Minister. “The claim of Mankotia is ridiculous that 80 per cent people want resignation of Virbhadra Singh. Perhaps he is issuing such malicious statements just to please the BJP leaders,” they said.

As far as appointment of the Chief Secretary is concerned, they said it is always the prerogative of the state government to appoint officer of their choice and Mankotia has no right to raise questions about it.
