Fresh floods damage houses, snap road links

Shimla: Following flash floods triggered by rain at the Pashgaon Khad near Ganvi in the Rampur subdivision of Shimla district, five water mills and some foot bridges linking adjoining villages were washed away, two houses were damaged and road connectivity was snapped between Ganvi and Fancha and Ganvi and Jagori villages. However, no loss of life was reported.

Shimla: Following flash floods triggered by rain at the Pashgaon Khad near Ganvi in the Rampur subdivision of Shimla district, five water mills and some foot bridges linking adjoining villages were washed away, two houses were damaged and road connectivity was snapped between Ganvi and Fancha and Ganvi and Jagori villages. However, no loss of life was reported.

Reports of loss to crops and animals are also pouring in. The road connectivity between Ganvi and Jagori was also snapped after the small bridge linking the two villages was washed away. Two persons sustained injuries due to electric current as electricity poles were also damaged.

Deputy Commissioner, Shimla, Rohan Chand Thakur who visited the spot said all departments concerned had been directed to expedite restoration work, especially road connectivity. “Instant relief has been given to the owners of two damaged houses and field agencies have been directed to prepare relief cases by tomorrow,” he added.

“Additional resources like JCBs have been mobilised from private projects operating in Fancha. The Civil Supplies Department and the Health Department have been told to maintain supplies of all commodities and attend to all the exigencies promptly,” he added.
