Rakesh Chugh, president of the Chamber of Textile Manufacturer Association, said all shops and showrooms would remain closed up to 11 am and the fast would continue till their demands were met.

Surender Rewri, president of Panipat Yarn Dealers Association, and members of the Doormat Trader Association submitted a memorandum to Karnal MP Ashwani Chopra.

They demanded a reduction in tax on doormats from 12 per cent to 5 per cent. Rewri told Chopra that doormats were being manufactured in small pit looms with small machines which were tax free earlier.
