Roadways staff to hold protests on July 25

Chandigarh: The Haryana Roadways Workers’ Union will hold demonstrations outside depots in various districts of the state on July 25 and hundreds of workers will gherao the camp office of Transport Minister Krishan Lal Panwar on August 13.

Chandigarh: The Haryana Roadways Workers’ Union will hold demonstrations outside depots in various districts of the state on July 25 and hundreds of workers will gherao the camp office of Transport Minister Krishan Lal Panwar on August 13.

Sarbat Singh Punia, general secretary of the union, said that while the roadways workers had been agitating for improvement in the services, the authorities had been taking revengeful action against the workers.

He said the latest action of the government was to end reserved seat for conductor and roadways staff in the roadways buses. He said that by scrapping reserved seats for the conductor and roadways worker, the government had tried to hurt their self respect and prestige.

Punia said only 76 buses had been purchased in the past 3 years, while over 700 old buses had been taken out of service during the period.
