Sarwan Singh Pandher, a prominent Indian farmer leader and the coordinator of the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM), has raised serious concerns during the ongoing visit of US Vice President JD Vance to India.
According to Babushahi, Pandher alleged that the United States is pressuring the Indian government into signing a secret agreement that could severely impact the country’s agricultural and commercial sectors.
He claimed that the US is pushing India towards a tax-free market for foreign agricultural products, including poultry and other goods. “If foreign agricultural products, including milk, are dumped in India, the already struggling Indian farmers will be devastated. We are not even getting fair prices for our crops right now. Such a move would destroy our agriculture,” Pandher said.
He also accused US President Donald Trump of having consistently pressured India into making unfavorable deals in the past.
Expressing concerns over potential agreements being signed during JD Vance’s four-day visit, Pandher said, “Now, without any public discussion or official statement from our Prime Minister or Home Minister, the Vice President of the US is set to sign this damaging agreement.”
Calling it an "international attack on India’s sovereignty and economy," Pandher claimed the deal specifically targets Punjab and Haryana. He further announced that their organization, along with other farmers’ unions across the country, will launch protests.
“We will oppose this secret deal and burn effigies of Prime Minister Modi and the US President to demonstrate our resistance,” he declared, urging all unions across India to unite against what he described as a “looming disaster for India’s agricultural backbone.”
