Kisan Andolan Breakthrough: Farmers, SC-Appointed Panel Resume Talks After Year-Long Gap
In Chandigarh, discussions between protesting farmer unions and the Supreme Court-appointed high-powered committee are set to resume on Friday. This marks the first formal dialogue since March 20, 2025, following a year-long break after protestors were evicted from the Shambhu and Khanauri borders.
A 15-member delegation from the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM-Non-Political) will meet the panel, which is headed by Justice Nawab Singh (Retd). Other key members of the committee include former Haryana DGP PS Sandhu, agricultural economist Devender Sharma, and Professor Ranjit Singh Ghuman.
Confirming the development, SKM (Non-Political) leader Kaka Singh Kotda stated that the delegation seeks clarity on the progress of framing a legal guarantee for the Minimum Support Price (MSP).
The farmer leaders are also expected to meet Member of Parliament Charanjit Singh Channi, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Agriculture, to discuss recent recommendations for safeguarding farmers' interests.
The meeting is seen as a crucial step toward depoliticising the protest and finding a structured solution to long-standing grievances. The outcome of today's discussions is expected to determine the future course of the farmers' movement.
