The discussions focused on addressing challenges and opportunities in the agriculture sector. Key topics included policy reforms, budgetary allocations, sustainable practices, and initiatives to bolster the rural economy and enhance farmers’ welfare. Representatives shared suggestions aimed at improving productivity, market access, and infrastructure development.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Finance Ministry stated: "Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs Smt. @nsitharaman chairs the second Pre-Budget Consultation with various farmer associations and leading agricultural economists in connection with the forthcoming Union Budget 2025-26, in New Delhi, today."
The consultation was attended by Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, Finance Secretary, and senior officials from the Department of Economic Affairs and the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM).
A Comprehensive Pre-Budget Process
This meeting is part of a series of stakeholder engagements the Finance Ministry conducts annually to ensure an inclusive and comprehensive approach to the Union Budget. On Friday, the Finance Minister met with leading economists to discuss strategies and suggestions for the upcoming fiscal year.
The formal Budget preparation process for FY 2025-26 is already underway, with multiple consultations planned across sectors, including industry leaders, state representatives, and economic experts.
As in previous years, the Union Budget 2025-26 is expected to be presented on February 1.
