Ranaut’s unexpected stance follows recent controversies surrounding Diljit Dosanjh’s Dil-Luminati India tour.
During his concerts in Andhra Pradesh-Telangana, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra, songs related to alcohol and drugs were banned, sparking debates and mixed reactions. The restrictions were imposed to address concerns about the promotion of such themes, particularly their influence on young audiences.
Speaking on the issue during an interview with a senior "news anchor", Kangana Ranaut set aside her previous disagreements with Diljit to criticize the broader policy approach.
“Alcohol is banned everywhere, but isn’t it the responsibility of individuals? If alcohol references are removed from films and songs, will it truly stop alcohol consumption? Many states are alcohol-free, but does that mean alcohol isn’t being sold?” she remarked.
Ranaut also questioned the enforcement of such rules, pointing out inconsistencies in their application. “There are videos of accidents due to alcohol consumption, yet who is following the rules there? It ultimately boils down to individual responsibility,” she added.
Diljit Dosanjh faced additional scrutiny during his December 14 concert in Chandigarh. The Commission for Protection of Child Rights issued an advisory before the event, warning him against performing songs that promote alcohol and prohibiting children from being brought on stage.
While Kangana Ranaut and Diljit Dosanjh have previously clashed over political and cultural issues, her recent comments mark a rare moment of agreement, emphasizing personal accountability over blanket bans.
