Resident of Sangrur files plea seeking FIR against Badshah 'obscene' lyrics in song “Tateeree”

The complainants have also sought the immediate banning of the song on all digital platforms.

Tateeree Badshah News: A resident of Sangrur, Punjab, has filed an application seeking the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against singer and rapper Badshah over alleged obscene and vulgar content in his song “Tateeree.”

Kamal Anand and Jatinder Kalra, both residents of Sangrur in Punjab, have lodged a complaint under Section 173 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), seeking the registration of an FIR against the rapper for allegedly promoting obscene and vulgar content and glorifying drug abuse through his song “Tateeree.”

The complaint alleges the commission of cognizable offences punishable under Sections 294 (sale of obscene material), 296 (obscene acts and songs), and 61 (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The complainants have also sought the immediate banning of the song on all digital platforms.

Aditya Prateek Singh, popularly known as Badshah, 38, recently released the song “Tateeree,” featuring Simran Jaglan.
“This song contains highly obscene, vulgar, and double-meaning lyrics that are derogatory, sexually suggestive, and promote immorality,” the complaint read.

“In one stanza, the accused sings: "आया बादशाह डोली चढ़ाने इन सबकी घोड़ी बनाने" (Aaya Badshah, doli chadhane, in sabki ghodi banane). This line is laden with vulgar double entendre, implying sexual exploitation and objectification of women in a crude and demeaning manner, which offends public decency and morals,” it further read.

“In another stanza, the accused explicitly glorifies drug abuse by singing: "दो ही दोसà¥Âत हैं मेरे मेरा पेन मेरा पेन मेरी बंदी कोकेन" (Do hi dost hain mere, mera pen, mera pen, meri bandi cocaine). This line openly references cocaine (a psychotropic substance) as a "friend" and "bandi" (girlfriend/partner), thereby promoting and normalizing the use of narcotics among listeners, especially vulnerable youth,” it added.

The complainants stated that the lyrics and the song as a whole constitute obscene material under Section 294 of the BNS, claiming that “they are lascivious, appeal to prurient interest, and tend to deprave and corrupt persons who hear or view it.”

Further, the complaint alleges that the public performance and dissemination of such songs amount to an offence under Section 296 of the BNS. It also states that the glorification of cocaine usage violates the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act) by abetting and conspiring to promote drug consumption, which it describes as a serious threat to public health and society.
